Once the exclusive domain of engineering disciplines, Project Management has moved onto business’ Main Street. People from many walks of life are now routinely called on to be members of project teams and are often asked to assist with or assume the role of Project Manager. And no one is more surprised than these new inductees to the world of professional Project Management. Interest in the topic is reaching new heights with no sense of decline in sight. That makes this a perfect time to reflect on what modern Project Management has become and why it is such a critical issue for business organizations of all types.
Project Management is a discipline for planning, leading, organizing and controlling a well-defined collection of work. This discipline must be repeatable and explainable. It is not an art form invented by each practitioner, nor is it a science with explicit formulas and rules. Despite these restrictions, however, an organization’s approach to Project Management must be consistent so that knowledge and experience may be shared across project boundaries.

La Gerencia de Proyectos reúne de forma exclusiva el dominio de las diferentes disciplinas de ingeniería. La Gerencia de proyectos se ha trasladado hacia la vía de los negocios. Personas de diferente ámbitos de la vida, de manera rutinaria son llamados a formar parte de Equipos de Proyectos y en ocasiones a asumir la Función de Gerente de Proyecto. Los más sorprendidos son aquellas personas que recién ingresan en el mundo de los Profesionales de Gerencia de Proyectos. Este es un interesante tema que llega a diferentes latitudes. Es tiempo de tomar un momento para reflexionar sobre lo moderno que se ha convertido la Gerencia de Proyectos y del ¿Por qué se ha convertido en un tema critico para las Organizaciones y Empresas de todo tipo.
La Gerencia de Proyecto es una disciplina para Planificar, dirigir, liderar, Organizar y Controlar toda la colección de trabajos(tareas) bien definidos. Esta disciplina debe ser repetible y explicable. No es una forma de arte inventada por cada practicante; no es una ciencia con formulas y reglas explícitas. A pesar de las restricciones ya mencionadas el enfoque que cada Organización debe darle a la Gerencia de Proyecto para que el conocimiento y la experiencia puede ser compartida dentro del alcance del Proyecto.
